CHAT ROOMS—like any other area where strangers mingle—contain dangers that you need to be aware of. To illustrate, if you visited a big city, you would logically endeavor to minimize any threat to your safety by identifying and then avoiding hazardous areas.
There many danger inherent to many chat rooms. The possibility of your coming in contact with sexual predators and the temptation for you to become deceiver. There are other dangers that are worth considering. But, first , how are chat rooms organized?

Organized for a Purpose
Chat rooms are usually organized according to topics that attract certain groups of people. Some might be set up for enthusiasts of a particular sport or hobby. Others may be devoted to discussing a television show. Still others might cater to people claiming to belong to a particular religion.

The Trap of Isolation
Another aspect of chat rooms that you do well to consider is the amount of time you consume. When you become absorbed in chat rooms you spend time chatting online, you must buy out time from some other activity. The area prone to suffer immediately may not be your homework or your household chores.
If you are spending valuable time in chat rooms, you may likewise be isolating yourself from those who matter most to you.
Avoiding the Dangers
18You may have a compelling reason to access a chat room—for example, as part of a required school project.% If so, you can ensure that chat rooms do not become a snare for you by taking the following simple precautions.

First, avoid using an Internet-connected computer in the privacy of your own room. Doing so would be like wandering by yourself down a dark street in a strange city—you would be asking for trouble. Rather, keep the computer in a public area of the house where others can easily monitor its use.

Second, encourage better communication with your parents by showing them your online destinations and by explaining why you need to access a particular chat room. Also, set a time limit on how long you will be at the computer, and then stick to it.

Third, install computer programs that will help protect you from online sexual harassment by filtering the content of incoming messages. If you do receive sexual solicitations while online, let your parents or teacher know immediately. In some countries adults who know you are a minor yet solicit you through sexually suggestive text messages or other pornographic material are committing a criminal offense. They should be reported to the police.

In addition, never give out your name, your address, the name of the school you attend, or your phone number to someone you meet in a chat room. And never accept an invitation to meet face-to-face with a person you meet online!

Although written thousands of years ago, the words of wise King Solomon are relevant to the dangers posed by chat rooms: “Shrewd is the one that has seen the calamity and proceeds to conceal himself, but the inexperienced have passed along and must suffer the penalty.”—Proverbs 22:3.

Can Internet Dating Really Be Dangerous?

“On the Internet, you may not actually know who the other person is.”—Dan, 17.*
“People can lie on the Internet. It’s easy to put on a front.”—George, 26.
INTERNET dating continues to grow in popularity worldwide. As the preceding article in this series discussed, Internet romances may blossom quickly, but they often wither when reality sets in.# Still, there is a greater cause for concern than mere disappointment. Dating in this fashion may put you in serious danger—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual.

How can something that looks so innocent and safe—a computer terminal right in your own home—actually present a danger to you? Some of the dangers are related to an important Bible principle. The apostle Paul wrote: “We wish to conduct ourselves honestly in all things.” (Hebrews 13:18) Now, this is not to suggest that it is dishonest to use the Internet or even that using the Internet will make you dishonest. However, we must recognize that other people often are not honest and that as the quotations at the outset of this article illustrate, the Internet seems to make certain kinds of dishonesty easier to practice and harder to detect. And when it comes to romantic attachments, dishonesty presents terrible dangers.

For example, note the kind of dishonesty described in this Bible verse: “I have not sat with men of untruth; and with those who hide what they are I do not come in.” (Psalm 26:4) What is meant by “those who hide what they are”? Some Bible translations here read “hypocrites.” As one reference work notes, this expression can be applied to “those who hide their purposes or designs from others, or who conceal their real character and intentions.”

Which Religion Should You Choose?

September 30, 2009 at 9:47 am (Chat Rooms How CAn I Avoid Dangers?)

RELIGION WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO?

rel

Different Religions now a days are existing.. and ofcourse there are simply different roads leading to the same goal. After all, there is only one God, is there not? That sentiment is shared by many who feel that although religious affilliant is important, it does not really matter which religion one chooses to follow.

At first glance, this argument may seem plausible, since it is true that there is only one God, the Almighty.(Isaiah 44:6) However, we cannot overlook the obvious differences.. even contradictions, among the many religious groups who claim to serve the true God. They differ greatly in their practices, their beliefs, their teachings and their requirements. The differences are so great that those belonging to one religion or group find it difficult to undrstand or accept what the others teach or believe.

On  the other, Jesus said: “God is a  Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”(John 4:24). Does worshipping God is, what his purposes are, and how he wants to be worshiped? Is it logical to believe that it is immaterial to Almighty God ho we  worshiped him?

True Christians Then and Now

Christians of the first century at times had different opinions about things. For example, speaking of those in Corinth, the apostle said: ” Disclosure was made to me about you, my brothers, by those of  the house of Chloe, that, that dissensions exists among you. What I mean is this, that each one of  you says: ‘ I belong to Paul. ‘ But i to Apollos’  But to Cephas, ‘But I to Christ.”_!Corinthians 1:11,12.

Ofcourse, unity of belief cannot be achived by coercion. It is achieved only when individuals carefully investigate matters and arrive at and accept the same conclusions. Thus, a personal study of God’s Word and an honest desire to apply  what is learned are essential. Can such unity be found?
